Great books to read as a team

One practice to help unite your team is to read a book then gather together to discuss its ideas and how they might apply to your business.  Here are a few books that I recommend for that purpose:

1. Pour Your Heart Into It by Starbucks’ Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz.

2. Only the Paranoid Survive by Andrew S. Grove, former CEO of Intel.

3. Why is Everyone Smiling? by Paul Spiegelman, CEO of The Beryl Companies.

4. Identity is Destiny by Lawrence Ackerman.

5. The Trusted Advisor by David Maister, et. al.

6. Somebodies and Nobodies by Robert Fuller.

7. First, Break All The Rules by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman.

I selected an assortment of books that I found were valuable to me, each in its unique way.  As I identify new books that I believe would be ideal for teams to read together I’ll post reviews on them.

Note: The idea for getting your team together to read a book came from the late Dave Corley who was COO of the Citi Private Bank.  Dave did this regularly with the leaders on his own team whom he loved to challenge, coach, mentor and grow. Dave was a great leader himself, and a great human being.
