Earlier this year, health law attorney Jay McEniry wrote in the American Bar Association’s The Health Lawyer about the need for greater human connection in the practice of law. He cited an article I wrote for SmartBrief. Here’s Mr. McEniry’s article: “Chair’s Column” Addressing Our Loneliness Epidemic.”

I’d like to write an article later this year about a law firm that values and intentionally cultivates human connection in its culture. Sadly, I’m unaware of any that fit this description. The law firms I’ve observed over the last 30 years have cultures that are disconnecting because they are a mix of cultures of control and cultures of indifference. As a result, many lawyers are lonely and/or socially isolated, and they struggle with anxiety, depression and addiction.
